The Library expands its holdings also through donations or exchanges from private individuals or other institutions.
Donation proposals from private individuals should be submitted using the letter of intent template.
Libraries or other institutions can submit their offers of donations or exchanges directly to the designated contacts for each section listed below.
For further details regarding acceptance criteria, submission procedures, approval process, and inventory and cataloguing, please refer to the attached Guidelines.
The material acquired in this way becomes part of the Library's holdings, generally without any processing constraints (any specific cases will be examined and agreed on a case-by-case basis), and is subject to the Library's ordinary management (inventorying, cataloguing, placing, discarding, etc.).
As a rule, the Library does not accept:
• materials from subject areas inconsistent with the Library's collections;
• publications already held in any of the Library's Sections;
• school textbooks;
• general encyclopaedias;
• journal issues (unless they complete already existing collections), or incomplete journal volumes;
• photocopies and self-published materials;
• materials in poor condition.
