Loan

The service allows users to borrow library materials for a fixed period.

Eligibility

User registration for borrowing

The following users are eligible for the service: students enrolled at the University of Bologna, PhD candidates, staff of UNIBO, and any registered user of a library in the SBN UBO or RAV network.

To access the loan service, users must register at any University of Bologna library.

How to register

UNIBO students and other university users must present their university badge and a valid personal identification (the first time only). Users already registered with any library in the UBO or RAV network must show valid personal identification.

Authorising a proxy borrower

Loans are strictly personal. If a user wishes to authorise someone else to borrow items on their behalf, they must provide the authorised person with the filled in and signed authorisation form (available below).

No authorisation is required to return borrowed items.

Bookings and extensions

Requests, bookings and extensions

You can request items available in the library and collect them within 3 days.

You can book documents already on loan. You will be notified as soon as the items become available. The items will remain on hold for 3 days, including the date of notification.

If your loan is due to expire, you may extend it once, provided no other user has requested the item.

Loan requests, bookings and renewals can be made via the SBN Catalogue of the Bologna Library Network (after logging in), or by contacting the Library’s loan service directly.

Returns

How and where

Books must be returned either in person or by post to the same section from which they were borrowed.

For books borrowed from the Central Section, two 24-hour drop-off boxes are available:

  1. at the Campus entrance in via dell'Università 50. Items returned here will be processed as returned the following day;
  2. at the exit of the Central Section of the Library in via Vico. Items returned here will be processed in real time (always check for the return confirmation email).

For books borrowed from the Aquaculture Section, when library staff are unavailable, items may be returned at the reception desk.

Fines

Fines

You will receive a reminder three days before the due date. If you return an item late, you will be suspended from borrowing for a number of days equal to twice the delay. If you fail to return a book or document, you will be blocked from borrowing at all University libraries.

Do not damage or underline borrowed material. The Library will claim compensation for damaged or lost documents. See attached University Regulations.
